Elicitations of Plains Cree sentences and grammar with two speakers, in Spiritwood, Saskatchewan, and Vancouver, B.C., from February to October 1993.

Plains Cree language field notebooks and loose notes from Sweetgrass Reserve and Starblanket Reserve (or Ahtahkakoop), Saskatchewan. The first 10 notebooks (approximately 160 pages each) appear to be in Bloomfield's hand primarily contain texts, with some word lists, in romanized Plains Cree orthography, almost entirely untranslated. A final notebook and loose notes contain 26 texts (numbered 83-108) written in Cree syllabic script by Harry Achenam, with one (#108) written or dictated by Maggie Achenam. The loose notes also contain at least 1 brief text (5 p.) in Cree syllabic script written by "Askiy-kā-pimuhtātahk (Pimutat)" of Starblanket Reserve. These texts were intended as part of a sequel to Bloomfield's Plains Cree Texts (1934), but were never published.

This collection of twelve items includes dictionaries, lexicons, grammars, and miscellaneous missionary materials in Blackfoot, Slave, Cree, Montagnais, Tlingit, and Hare (Kawchotinne). Written by various authors.

The Charles E. Fiero Papers contain word lists, texts, illustrations, and audio recordings derived mostly from missionary linguist Fiero's fieldwork among Ojibwe speakers in Ontario, Manitoba, and Minnesota, between the 1950s and the 1990s.

This collection consists of two manuscripts volumes containing vocabularies from numerous Indigenous languages primarily from what is now Washington, Idaho, Oregon, British Columbia, and Alaska, as well as some from the Great Lakes and central Canada, obtained by dictation from native speakers and traders of the Hudson's Bay Company.

This item contains Jefferson's comparative vocabulary, based on his collection of vocabularies taken on printed forms; a second comparative vocabulary; and John Sibley's vocabulary of the Caddo language. This document was damaged in transit from the White House to Monticello in 1809 (see letters of Jefferson to Peter S. Du Ponceau, November 7, 1817, and April 26, 1816.)

This collection consists of one tape of a New Years' Service held at a Community Hall on 1 January 1968, and two tapes of autobiographical stories, folkloric stories, tribal histories, and descriptions of customs given in the Stoney language only by Carl Simeon (identified as a "speaker of the younger dialect") on 21 August 1971 and by Willie Good Stoney (identified as a "speaker of theh older dialect") on 23 August 1971.

Collection of research notes by Ilse Lehiste, mostly relating to phonetics. The collection includes over 200 audio recordings (mostly reel-to-reel tapes, and a small amount of cassettes and commercial Estonian vinyl records), many spectrograms (rolled and flat), research notes towards publications, other lab notes, and correspondence and other professional files. This collection is not yet processed. Languages within the collection include Estonian, Finnish, Baltic languages, Icelandic, Russian, Cree, Siksika, and Denesuline (Chipewyan).

The Daythal L. Kendall papers consist of a wide variety of published and unpublished work on especially Takelma, Kalapuyan languages, and Lencan languages. A linguist and computer scientist, Kendall devoted much time to synchronic and diachronic linguistics of Takelma and the Penutian stock, including much research on Takelma poetic forms, Kalapuyan morphology and gathering a large unpublished lexicon for Lencan languages. He also produced pedagogical materials for learning Canadian Aboriginal syllabics, and worked twice for the American Philosophical Society to develop their understanding of their Native American collections. In the papers are correspondence, extensive research and manuscripts on the above, collected materials from others including many handouts from conferences (particularly the Society for the Study of the Indigenous Languages of the Americas), lexical slips, and photographs of Native Oregonians and their land.

For many years referred to as the "Franz Boas Collection of American Indian Linguistics," this collection consists of a large body of linguistic and ethnographic material gathered together by Boas and many of his colleagues and students primarily from the 1890s to the 1940s. It contains the bulk of Boas's own fieldwork material, with the main exception of most of his Inuit and earliest Northwest Coast fieldwork. It contains the majority of the work sponsored by American Council of Learned Societies Committee on Native American Languages, which was directed by Franz Boas, Edward Sapir, Alfred Kroeber, and other academic linguists from 1927-1937. The collection, however, also contains related kinds of fieldwork and derived secondary materials created outside the auspices of this Committee, both earlier and later. The first deposit of the material arrivied in 1945. Subsequently, additional related materials were donated and added, as noted in the listings. Additionally, the documentary materials produced by some of the early projects (1945 to circa 1955) of the APS Phillips Fund for Native American Research were added to this collection. The collection has grown to over 80 linear feet of material representing at least 166 languages and dialects from the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The formats range from field notes and ethnographic texts to slip files, vocabularies, lexica, and grammars, and dozens of linguists and Native consultants are represented.
